A Tribute to Islay’s Coastal Character

This remarkable 27-year-old expression from Tri Carragh showcases the maritime legacy of Bowmore, one of Islay’s most historic distilleries. Distilled on May 7, 1997, it has spent nearly three decades aging before being bottled from a single refill sherry butt. With only 12 bottles available, this release offers a rare glimpse into Bowmore’s signature interplay of smoke, floral accents, and a refined sweetness that only time can cultivate.

DISTILLERY INSIGHT
Situated on the shores of Loch Indaal since 1779, Bowmore is celebrated for its masterful balance of coastal brine, fruit, and peat—often considered the epitome of Islay whisky. Every cask carries a unique tale of seaside maturation, making Bowmore a prized name among peat enthusiasts and collectors alike. This single-cask bottling reveals the distillery’s time-honored charm, layering smoky depth with an elegant floral touch.

CASK INFLUENCE
Matured in a refill sherry butt, this whisky gains depth without overshadowing Bowmore’s hallmark peat character. Over 27 years, the cask gently imparts notes of sweet barbecue, delicate florals, and Islay’s signature maritime essence. The extended aging process enhances complexity, transforming Bowmore’s bold peat and fruit into a sophisticated medley of flavors.

TASTING NOTES
NOSE
A fragrant floral sweetness opens the experience—lavender and Parma Violets—quickly giving way to rich, sticky barbecue glaze over charcoal-seared ribs, with a wisp of sweet tobacco lingering in the background.

PALATE
The first sip is robust and textured, brimming with smoked barbecue flavors and a touch of warming red pepper spice. Hints of cherry emerge later, adding a bright fruity contrast. A splash of water heightens the smokiness while accentuating the underlying sweetness. Floral nuances return, mingling with rich hickory-smoked layers.

FINISH
Long and mouthwatering, where floral and smoky barbecue elements intertwine, lingering gracefully. The final echoes leave behind a well-rounded smoky-sweet harmony, ensuring a memorable farewell.
