The late 19th century was a golden age for Irish Whiskey, and during that age George Roe’s Dublin distillery was the largest in the world, exporting its wares to the four corners of the globe. Far more than just a whiskey baron, George Roe was a beloved philanthropist, Lord Mayor of Dublin and a social progressive who believed in bringing people together to accomplish great things.
However the amazing story of George Roe, his family and their famous whiskies, has largely been lost to history since the distillery closed its gates in 1926, and all that remains is the distillery windmill and a pear tree that flowers to this day.
Roe & CO Blended Irish Whiskey was born out of a partnership between Diageo Master Blender Caroline Martin and five Ireland-based bartenders hand-picked by Martin, with the goal of creating a unique blended Irish Whiskey that would hold its own in cocktails.
Roe & Co is a blend of intense, fruity malt whiskey and the smoothest grain whiskies that have slowly matured in first-fill Bourbon casks. Non-chilled filtered and bottled at 45% ABV – just as George Roe did, offering a unique flavour profile that is great in a cocktail or just on its own.
Caroline Martin's Tasting Notes:
Aroma: Creamy, delightfully fragrant and remarkably rounded with notes of soft spice and mellow spun sugar along with warm hints of woody vanilla.
Taste: The quality and perfect balance of the blend is immediately apparent on the palate through its velvety texture and sweet flavours including spiced pears and vanilla.
Finish: Lingering and gentle, ending with a light creaminess.
