Aābunadh, Gaelic for āof the originā, is matured exclusively in Oloroso ex-sherry butts. It is a natural cask-strength malt whisky produced without the use of modern-day chill filtering methods or the addition of water.
Tasting Notes:
Color: Deep, rich amber
Aroma: Aromas of mixed spices, praline and spiced orange harmonising with rich, deep notes of Oloroso sherry
Taste: Orange, black cherries, dried fruit and ginger spiked with dark bitter chocolate and enriched with sherry and oak. Full bodied and creamy
Finish: Robust and intense with bitter-sweet notes of exotic spices, dark chocolate and oak
Review by Uncle Knucklhead:Ā Ā Aberlour Aābunadh is a cask strength (59.9% abv), un-chill-filtered beast of a whisky, fully aged in ex-Oloroso sherry butts. Aberlour is one of those Scotch distilleries in the heart of the Speyside district that is picturesque and ancient, with its pagoda tops popping above a sylvan, verdant dale of green countryside.
Aberlour means āmouth of the chattering burnā a shout-out to the water source they use but it also reaches back into deep Celtic and Druid history, when the burn was used by Christian monks to save those heathen Druid souls through baptism.
Damn, thereās some layers in that.Ā
