Nikka Yoichi Discovery Series Non-Peated Single Malt Whisky (750mL)

This limited edition of Yoichi single malt that was introduced in 2021 as the first of the “Nikka Discovery” series.

In anticipation of Nikka Whisky’s 90th Anniversary, the series offers an inside look at the various experiments in the whisky-making process that Nikka has practiced over the years.

This expression is comprised solely of unpeated malts as opposed to the preconceived “peaty” image of Yoichi. It offers a delicate balance of bright fruitiness and rich mouthfeel, along with its distinctive smokiness generated by coal-fired distillation.

Nikka Yoichi Non-Peated Single Malt Tasting Notes:

Color: Light straw

Aroma: Malty cereals provide a very rich, oat flakes base followed by a tropical fruit mix and hints if coriander, some dill and chervil.

Palate: Very creamy and rich. The spice on the nose carries through to the palate, quickly fading away into a very sweet, rich malty flavor with mild notes of bittersweet honey and granulated demerara sugar. The fruitiness is fairly restrained, with mainly apples, peaches and apricots. Freshly chopped herbs make a guest appearance as well, alongside an oaky woody note.

Finish: long, still very malty and sweet. Caramel sweetness lingers and eventually fades into the woody and herb bitterness that ends with a drying quality to the finish.
