Amrut Fusion Indian Single Malt Whisky (750mL)

Amrut Single Malt Whisky is a product of 20 years of research by AMRUT DISTELLERIES LTD. (ADL), in an effort to produce high quality malt whisky in tune with world standards.

The whisky is made from select Indian malted barley grown in Punjab and Rajasthan, the northwest frontier states of India. In Punjab, the waters from the great Himalayas flow through the river Sutlej and irrigated the land under the Bhakra Nangal Dam scheme. The cold winters and fiery summers create a unique quality of grain, rich in flavour. Malting takes place at maltsters in Jaipur and Delhi according to the standards laid down by ADL.

The malted barley is then transported to the south of India to our production unit in Bangalore where it is carefully mashed and distilled in small batches to preserve the natural aromas. The whisky then undergoes maturation in imported oak barrels for over three years in a unique tropical condition at a ware house on the distillery premises in Bangalore, the Garden City of India, which is at an altitude of 3000 ft. above the sea level enjoying a salubrious climate all year around. This unique natural geographical location allows intense maturation by losing considerable amount of whisky as the "Angle's share"

To maintain the natural character of the product, the whisky is not chill filtered. Therefore, there may be mild cloudiness on dilution, which is natural for all classic malts. The whisky is best enjoyed both as an aperitif as digestive.

Tasting Notes

Nose : Heavy, thickly oaked and complex: some curious barley sugar notes here shrouded in soft smoke. Big, but seductively gentle, too..

Taste : The delivery through controlled at first, is massive! Then more like confusion as that smoke on the nose turns into warming, full brown peat, but it far from gets its own way as a vague sherry trifle note(curious, seeing how there are no sherry butts involved) - the custard presumably is okay vanilla hammers home that barley - fruitiness to make for a bit of a free for all; but for extra food measure the flavours develop into a really intense chocolate fudge middle which absolutely resonates through the palate;

Finish : A slight struggle here as the mouthfeel gets a bit puffy here with the dry peat and oak; enough molasses sweetness to see the malt through to a satisfying end, though. Above all the spices, rather than lying down and accepting their fate, rise up and usher this extraordinary whisky to its exit
