Colorado’s Breckenridge Distillery recently introduced its third in the Collectors Art Series, with this edition being a PX Naranja Cask Finish Whiskey.
The whiskey maker noted that this special edition was made in collaboration with local Colorado artist Sandra Fettingis.
For Bryan Nolt, founder and CEO of Breckenridge Distillery, his art is created from corn, rye and barley. The combination of the two artists brought about the unique PX Naranja finish, a whiskey that clocks in at 47% ABV, or 96 proof.
The distiller noted that this whiskey features aromas of stone fruit and candied mandarin orange peel on the nose, with raisin and fig, along with orange marmalade on the palate. It finishes with a light cinnamon spice balanced by matured oak.
The artist and inspiration behind this PX Naranja Cask Finish, Fettingis is a muralist by trade, and she’s focused on creating work for the public realm through geometric patterning. The Denver artist is credited with more than 80 large-scale artworks for public and private collections across the nation.
This special artist-edition whiskey also comes with a unique cocktail recipe, the Naranja Sunshine:
1-1/2 oz Breckenridge PX Naranja Cask Finish
1 oz peach, vanilla simple syrup*
1 oz mandarin juice
½ oz fresh lemon juice
Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain over pebble ice.
Garnish: Lucky Sorrel
*Simple Syrup: over low-med heat, add 1 cup peach juice, 1 cup brown sugar and 2 tsp vanilla bean paste. Stir until sugar is dissolved, let cool, bottle and refrigerate.
The PX Naranja Cask Finish will only be available starting today at the Breckenridge Distillery and Tasting Room in Breckenridge, Colorado.
