Hemingway Whiskey Company’s New Signature Rye Whiskey Debuts

There’s a new core expression being released from The Hemingway Whiskey Company, a signature edition rye.

A recent statement from the family-owned whiskey brand noted that this new offering will be available in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Florida, and soon in 10 new states for the brand. It can also be found online at www.hemingwaywhiskeys.com.

Hemingway Rye Whiskey Signature Edition actually represents the coming together of three families, eight generations in all, as the new whiskey draws its inspiration from the legacy of the American author, journalist, and storyteller, Ernest Hemingway.

His family works hand-in-hand with the Hemingway Whiskey Company, sharing behind-the-scenes stories of the writer.

The Groth family, including Hemingway Whiskey Company founder Steve Groth (who co-founded Angel’s Envy Bourbon), are the genesis of Hemingway Whiskey.

And on the production side, the Call family, seventh-generation Master Distiller Ron Call and his sons Clayton Call and Jacob Call, source, blend, and finish the rye whiskey.

In fact, the Call Family’s whiskey roots go back to the 1700s, back when Samuel Call distilled whiskey on his Kentucky farm.

“We’ve been thrilled to see the overwhelmingly positive reception to our inaugural whiskey releases, and we couldn’t be more proud to share our Signature Edition,” said Steve Groth. “Our families came together to create this new whiskey, filled with tradition and passion, and we can’t wait to hear what people think.”

The distiller’s statement noted that this first batch of Hemingway Rye Whiskey Signature Edition is a blend of straight rye whiskeys, 90% 6-year-old Indiana straight rye and 10% 4-year-old Kentucky straight rye, made by Jacob Call.

Both whiskeys finished in Ron Call’s own rum-seasoned Oloroso Sherry casks, bringing a balance of sweet and spicy flavors.

The Hemingway Whiskey clocks in at 102 proof, and shows a dark amber color. The rye features notes of dried fruits and raisins, toasted nuts, nutmeg and cocoa on the palate, with a hint of citrus zest. It finishes with baked fruit, baking spices, and a lingering caramel sweetness.

“Crafting a new signature whiskey is a significant endeavor for any distiller, and the entire Hemingway Whiskey team has worked hard to get it just right,” said Jacob Call.

The new Western Kentucky Distilling Co. in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, co-founded by Jacob Call, will be the home for Hemingway Rye Whiskey.

Call said the distillery purchases all its equipment in the state and uses all locally grown Kentucky corn. The distillery will be open for visitors in the near future.

This latest release features a custom bottle with a typewriter key design alongside Hemingway’s famed signature. The label is complete with the signatures of the Call Family and an accompanying neck piece that shows a rye grain receipt signed by Jacob Call.

As they launched the Signature Edition, and in honor of Ernest Hemingway’s storytelling legacy, the Hemingway Whiskey Company introduced the Hemingway Six-Word Story Challenge. This is inspired by Hemingway’s six-word short story, “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”

The challenge invites people to create their own six-word stories, and to enter the challenge and have your story voted on, go to www.hemingwaysixword.com.

Hemingway Rye Whiskey Signature Edition is now available for a suggested price of $79.99 for a 750ml bottle online and in select stores.
