To honor Metallica’s 12th studio album, Blackened Whiskey recently announced its limited edition 72 Seasons Batch and collectible bottle design.
A statement from the makers of Blackened Whiskey noted that the new bottle features several elements inspired by Metallica’s album, including a yellow capsule with the signature Metallica “M” and the 72 Seasons logo displayed on the front.
Blackened Whiskey itself is a blend of straight bourbon and rye whiskeys which are notably finished and sonically-enhanced in brandy casks using Metallica’s music and the trademarked Black Noise process to extract more flavor from the wood.
The original recipe came from Founding Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, and continues on with current Master Distiller and Blender Rob Dietrich.
“Blackened was created as a way for us to connect with our fans and whiskey connoisseurs,” said Metallica Drummer and Co-Founder Lars Ulrich, in the prepared statement. “This batch does exactly that. We know our fans have been waiting a long time for new music, and we want to celebrate this release with them in every possible way we can. This album is as much theirs as it is ours, and we’re excited to unveil this commemorative release of Blackened.”
The distiller noted that this batch uses the same cask-finished blend as the original Blackened recipe, and uses the 72 Seasons album for the sonic-enhancement playlist, which includes:
- 72 Seasons
- Shadows Follow
- Screaming Suicide
- Sleepwalk My Life Away
- You Must Burn!
- Lux Æterna
- Crown of Barbed Wire
- Chasing Light
- If Darkness Had a Son
- Too Far Gone?
- Room of Mirrors
“It’s kind of like we’re bottling key Metallica memories with these limited release batches,” Dietrich said. “We did it with S&M2 and The Black Album, and now we’re doing it in a really fun way to celebrate 72 Seasons.”
Celebrating the commemorative bottle and album, Blackened Whiskey will be the co-presenting sponsor on the North American leg of the band’s M72 tour. They will also sponsor additional shows and parties on the Saturdays between shows, which include thematic Blackened cocktails, giveaways, as well as merchandise.
Blackened Whiskey will also give fans the chance to win a concert experience by giving away tickets and passes to a Master Distiller Experience for all U.S. markets. One fan will have the chance to win a grand prize of two tickets to the Sunday Detroit show with airfare, hotel and tickets, entrance to the Blackened Master Distiller experience ahead of the band’s set, and a one-of-a-kind Blackened ESP guitar.
