Austin’s Fierce Whiskers whiskey distillery has opened a temporary, floating pop-up bar on the waters of Lady Bird Lake in the Texas Hill Country.
A statement from Fierce Whiskers noted that the pop-up bar is part of its new straight rye whiskey launch, an expression they began distilling in September of 2020 for a release this summer.
They’re calling the pop-up The Stubborn Bar, as noted by Eater Austin, and it can be found at an undisclosed location on Lady Bird Lake. The free drinks at the bar include the Texas straight rye whiskey straight up or on the rocks, an Old Fashioned, and an Austin cocktail made with egg whites, lemon, honey, peach tea, and orgeat.
So how do you find this pop-up bar? Fierce Whiskers officials said that fans can find out how to attend the temporary bar by joining their email list at www.thestubbornbar.com.
The weekend pop-up bar will be open Saturdays and Sundays June 17-18, and June 24-25. It’ll be open on those dates from 2-8 p.m.
Organizers of The Stubborn Bar from Fierce Whiskers noted that the pop-up is located in a place that’s intentionally hard to get to, basically the middle of Lady Bird Lake. But the reward is that it’s the only bar where whiskey enthusiasts can try Fierce Whiskers’ two-year Texas Straight Rye.
So why call the bar stubborn? Fierce Whiskers’ official statement explained that “because it’s not easy to properly age a premium whiskey in the unrelenting heat of Austin, Texas, it took years of hard work, an unwillingness to cut corners, and a lot of stubbornness. We believe the first pour should go to those who are just as determined.”
And that first pour is floating somewhere on Lady Bird Lake. Drinks are on them. Getting there is on you.
