Port Ellen 37 Year Old (750mL)

$3,850.00

A limited edition, natural cask strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Port Ellen, a silent distillery on the Isle of Islay. The oldest Port Ellen ever released. Sixteenth of a limited series of annual releases that are very rare, highly sought after and will only be available a little longer. Earlier and far larger releases in this series now change hands among collectors for up to ten times their original SRP.

From refill European Oak butts filled in 1978, the last year of production. Self-assured, well-integrated and hugely complex whisky in which subtlety is all, with an effortless balance of sweet fruit notes, citrus, honey, smoke, fire and oak.

Tasting Notes:

Color:  Polished teak
Nose:  Sophisticated and understated; dry overall, opening with distant, faint smoke before a wave of familiar sweet and smoky notes. Pleasing sweet aromas of honey-cured smoked meats drift above the fragrant smoke. Fresh, cleansing notes with sweet mint and sharp citrus.
Body:  Medium
Taste:  Wonderful at natural strength. Sweet, prickly and drying, with a great mix of wood ash, burnt jam tarts, toffee and caramelized orange. Then more all-pervading smoke with a spicy-herbal complex featuring cloves. Water makes things cooler but doesn’t alter the well-balanced flavour profile.
Finish:  Long, cooling and complex. Instantly appetizing with toffee apple, burnt toast, lemon zest, ripe red apples. Deeply herbal and heavy with wood smoke.

Just 600 individually numbered bottles in the US!
